THE CURRICULUM Chester County Bus Tour Participants will hear from leaders in education, health care, local industries, and community collaboration, while visiting some of Chester County’s most interesting and defining venues. Interpersonal Skills To learn to work with maximum effectiveness with others to take action toward shared goals. To communicate organizational or team vision so that others are motivated to action. To understand group dynamics and develop consensus-building skills. Community Project Participants will actively participate in addressing a real problem faced by a non-profit in the community. During the CCLC program, participants will hear presentations from a variety of agencies, choosing one for a focus to work in-session and out of session to develop a comprehensive plan of action. The class reports back to the non-profit organization at the conclusion of the program Principle-Centered Leadership The analysis of multiple leadership styles and the identification of critical elements for positive decision-making and team building. Participants will gain knowledge in problem-solving and learn to build a strong foundation for ethical decision-making and visionary leadership skills. Board Fiduciary Responsibility/Director and Officer's Liability Participants will gain awareness of a non-profit board member’s responsibilities to assure that the organization adheres to appropriate standards and functions within the framework of its mission. Experts will discuss legal liabilities and present advice for protecting board members in their work. Board Governance To familiarize participants with the key aspects of board service in relation to the following topics: board/staff relationships, governance of the organization, policy making, policy implementation and board development. Non-Profit Fiscal Management/Fund Raising This session will focus on informing participants about budgeting for non-profits, cash management/cash flow and for-profit vs. non-profit accounting systems. Various methods of fundraising will be discussed, including capital campaigns, direct mail, special event fundraising and foundation grants. Accountability to funders and working with donors will also be explored. Strategic Planning Skills that can be used to create a compelling vision, clear and measurable goals to achieve that vision, and methods of assessing organizational progress. Participants will discuss the strategic planning process, facilitating key stakeholders in the plan and sharing the vision with their entire organization. Diversity To educate participants about what diversity is and how it affects us. To explore options for changing beliefs and behaviors in one’s self and in others. To learn how diversity can impact access to services and other opportunities. See class photos. |
